Antrei Hartikainen
History
Meeting Antrei is, above all, encountering a passion and joining a movement.
That of a young studio artisan who envisions grand possibilities, progressing from one milestone to the next, where each stop involves new innovations with the material, tests, exhibitions, prices, and collaborations with the most prominent Finnish design houses.
We embarked on this journey with him one Saturday morning. Just beyond the picturesque village of Fiskars, he graciously opened the doors of his workshop to us, unveiling his latest creations. Furniture, returning from an exhibition in Helsinki, shared space with works in progress. The northern light bathed the hangar in a beautiful hue, illuminating the vases and sculptures from the MELT collection, enticing us to reach out and touch them.
We were drawn to the convergence of wood and glass, the distinctly unconventional shapes of the sculptures, and the role of serendipity in creating these pieces, where each production is a delightful surprise. We also admired Antrei's uncompromising standards, modern approach, and relentless pursuit of excellence.
In 2018, Antrei received the Young Designer of the Year Award in his country and was shortlisted in 2019 for the Dezeen Awards as one of the emerging designers of the year.
