Marieta & Sorin

History

Following the tradition of being potters since his grandfather, Sorin and his wife Marieta are among Horezu's best-known potters.

In 2021, the Romanian Minister of Culture even named them a Living Human Treasure.

Their house is at the very top of the village, on the edge of the fields. One room is reserved for their creations and their collection of antique pieces. A real treasure trove of folk art dating back to the 1920s and made by Sorin's grandfather.

To keep the tradition alive, Sorin and Marieta are already training their daughter. The next generation is thus assured.

HOREZU

Horezu is a village with a community of some fifty craftsmen who themselves produce traditional ceramics using methods dating back over three hundred years.
One example is the use of ox horn and a feather to glaze the pieces.

In 2012, Horezu pottery was recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by Unesco, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
