Leonida & Gheorghe
History
Colour, suns, colourful tableware catches our eye among other plates exhibited that day by Leonida and Gheorghe.
We discuss their work and they show us around their workshop where Leonida decorates ceramics while listening to the latest developments in her series on Romanian TV.
She uses the same traditional objects for her decorations as all the other potters in the village: a foot wheel and horns for the enamel reserve, decorated with a feather to create the patterns so typical of Horezu: lines, vibrations, crossings, designs are formed with ease for her who has always handled this instrument.
In the creations of Leonida and Gheorghe we find a feeling of joy and brightness that symbolize them well.
HOREZU
Horezu is a village bringing together a community of about fifty craftsmen who themselves make traditional ceramics using methods dating back more than three hundred years. The use of ox horn and a feather to enamel the pieces is an illustration of this.
In 2012, Horezu pottery was recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
