Antrei Hartikainen

Meeting Antrei is above all meeting a passion and jumping on a bandwagon. That of a young studio maker who thinks big, advances from one station to another with at each stop new overtaking of the material, tests, exhibition, price and project with the biggest Finnish design houses. We boarded alongside him on a Saturday morning. Just outside the beautiful village of Fiskars, he opened the doors of his workshop to us and showed us his latest creations. Furniture returning from an exhibition in Helsinki was next to pieces in progress. The northern light bathed the hangar in a beautiful color and illuminated the vases and sculptures from the MELT collection, inviting us to come and touch them.

We liked this meeting of wood and glass, these very atypical shapes of the sculptures, the place of chance in the creation of these pieces where each production is a surprise. We also liked Antrei’s high standards, modernity and quest for excellence.

In 2018, Antrei received his country’s Young Designer of the Year Award and was shortlisted in 2019 by Dezeen Awards as one of the emerging designers of his year.
