In the past, shepherds in the Alentejo, a rural region of Portugal, would wrap themselves in these "mantas" (blankets) made of pure wool to protect themselves from the cold.
Today, while these "mantas" can still be used as blankets, they are also repurposed as bedspreads, wall hangings, or graphic, contemporary rugs.
Each "manta" is unique, woven entirely by hand on 19th-century looms. Through their traditional patterns and vibrant colors, they capture the very soul of the Alentejo.
Note: To use your manta as a rug—just like a "kilim"—we recommend placing a non-slip pad underneath it so your rug won’t budge an inch. The colors and dimensions of our "mantas" can also be customized. Feel free to contact us directly at info@lamaisondecommerce.com if you have any questions.
