An iconic object of the Mediterranean region, the gargoulette—also known as botijo in Spain—has been used for centuries to keep water cool in the heat. Crafted from unglazed terracotta, it operates on an age-old principle: evaporation through its porous walls naturally cools its contents.

Even today, the gargoulette charms with its authenticity, rustic simplicity, and remarkable ability to keep water cool in the sun. It fits just as well in a garden as it does on a summer table, offering a refreshing break in the traditional style—understated, elegant, and steeped in history.

Each piece is hand-turned using techniques passed down from generation to generation. With its narrow spout and wide handle, its traditional shape has remained virtually unchanged since the Middle Ages. It also comes in a variety of forms, ranging from the very contemporary “circle” gargoulette to the ingenious “gamelle” gargoulette, as well as the poetic “rooster” and “fish” gargoulettes.
