Séez, a small town in Savoie in the heart of the Tarentaise Valley.

It was here, on the banks of the Versoyen River, that two brothers, Alexis and Jean-Baptiste, set up their workshop in 1817.

Savoie is not yet part of France …

Two hundred years later, little has changed: although the spinning mill—designated a “Living Heritage Company” in 2006—is now part of a local group, it is Jacques, an eighth-generation “Master Spinner,” who serves as our guide.

Throughout the 24 stages of production for the famous “Drap de Bonneval”—as well as for the other fabrics woven here—he stands watch, wearing his Robin Hood hat, to ensure that this exceptional heritage is preserved.
