The double-woven wicker basket, or “cross-woven basket,” is a masterpiece of traditional French basketry, renowned for its exceptional sturdiness and instantly recognizable design. Used as a grocery and market basket, its rigidity helped protect fragile items, such as eggs and vegetables. With the advent of plastic in the 1950s, this basket nearly disappeared.
