Halfway between the plant and mineral worlds, this large sculpted vase by Diana Barbosa evokes bark and a leaf whose imprint the earth has preserved. Modeled using the traditional coil technique, it is sculpted from walnut leaves harvested in nature, then delicately perforated to allow light to circulate through the material.
A ceramist since 2015, Diana Barbosa works with stoneware between Portugal and France. Each vase is entirely handcrafted, then engraved, carved, and perforated through a slow process that reveals the full richness of the material. Layers of glazes, the work of oxides, and the alternation between raw and glazed earth highlight the volumes and give each piece a unique depth.
Conceived as both a sculptural object and a vase, it can hold dried branches as well as fresh flowers, as it is glazed. Each vase is a unique piece.
