A traditional Romanian shirt is like a fingerprint: no two are alike. Women embroidered them with a unique sequence of patterns based on their region of origin, weaving their stories and beliefs into each garment.

Romania’s traditional costume is like a hand with multiple fingerprints: each region of the country has its own distinctive style and embroidery. This illustration is inspired by a spectacular ensemble consisting of a blouse and a skirt from Argeș County, in Neamț or from The Land of the Forest People.
