A lavender bundle keeps moths away, fills closets with a lovely scent, and symbolizes happiness for young couples. Each bundle is unique—the color of its ribbon, whether satin or linen, is a surprise!
The lavender spool originated in the 18th century, when Provence became a major producer of lavandin to supply the perfumers of Grasse. On summer evenings, women would pick fresh sprigs of lavandin, turn them inside out, and weave them together with recycled linen ribbon to seal in the fragrance.
According to tradition, lavender spools should be kept in homes for 46 years and then discarded to celebrate the lavender wedding anniversary. When gently squeezed along its woven part, the spool releases its scent for 5 years, and a few drops of lavandin essential oil extend its lifespan. As a fun fact, it takes about 4 meters of ribbon to make each spool.
