The "chantepleure" is a terracotta watering can dating back to the Middle Ages—as useful as it is enchanting. Its poetic name comes from the sound it makes: it "sings" when you dip it into water to fill it, then "weeps" softly as you pour its contents over the plants.
It works in a simple yet ingenious way: once submerged, the object fills up through its spout. You then cover the top opening with your finger to hold the water in, before releasing it when you’re ready to water. The water then flows gently, making it ideal for seedlings, young plants, or delicate potted plants.
A beautiful garden feature that is as useful as it is decorative, the weeping fountain captivates with its simple form and soothing motion. It evokes a slower, more mindful relationship with time and the beauty of watering as a ritual.
Since everything is handmade, all our items are one-of-a-kind, even those produced in small batches. At La Maison de Commerce, you’ll never find two identical items—especially not the one in the photo and the one you’ll receive. This guarantees its authenticity, its beauty, and a few irregularities inherent to its craftsmanship by the finest artisans in France and Europe. All our items come with a certificate of authenticity issued by La Maison de Commerce.
