SCOALA DE LA PISCU
The Architect Serban Sturdza, gave us Adriana Scripcariu number without explanation.
Adriana is an art historian. Virgil, her husband is a sculptor. We visited them in the Județ d’Ilfov, an hour from Bucharest.
The Scripcariu created a school-factory-house, dedicated to an artisanal chain on the brink of extinction: the pottery from the neighbouring village of Piscu. A museum is now in development.
La Scoala de la Piscu is a place of intergenerational teaching and manufacturing. The few rare potters of the village still in existence all have their workshops, their ovens and their pupils.
Texts, photos, drawings and collections of traditional pieces teach us the techniques, the uses, the pigments and patterns. The research work carried out by Adriana, forms a simple, magnificent and ambitious project: to revive a once flourishing production.
It was the end of the day and Vigils birthday. The children were playing outside. We tried a local brandy in small colourful cups.
Thanks you Șerban Sturdza
