Here, the tradition reaches back to antiquity.
The pots made in Sifnos have always been delivered by boat throughout the Cyclades and as far as Athens.
The pieces made at Lembessis tell a story of water and sun. They contain a little of the sweet wilderness that characterises the island.
The men of the family have been potters for more than a century. Katerina, the grandmother, has been painting sets since 1950. In blue.
The workshop is located to the north of the island near Artemonas. There is no exact address. The Neighbours guide us to Nikos Lembessis, Katerinas grandson, who is now at the reigns of the business. With summer coming, production is intense. Priority is given to tableware, to best sellers and to tourists. For the rest of the year Lembessis takes his time to create pieces sold in the smart areas of Athens.
The family’s style: a perfect balance between perfection and imperfection, the simple beauty of drawing and shapes, and of traditional cuisine.
Timeless, not to say, eternal.
